# Thank-you note builder

Tell it who the note is for, what they gave or did and what it meant to you. You get a natural, finished note to copy into a card, edit, or print on a note card.

## How the note is put together

A good thank-you note does three things: names the gift or kindness, says something specific about it, and looks ahead to the relationship. The builder follows that shape. Choose what you are thanking them for (a gift, money, a favour, hosting, support or simply turning up), describe it in a few words, and add a line about how you will use it or what it meant. That one specific sentence is what makes a note feel personal, so it is worth writing yourself.

**Warm** suits family and close friends, **casual** is lighter and shorter, and **formal** fits colleagues, clients or people you know less well. Choose *Us* to write as a couple or family, and every "I" becomes "we". *Another version* rearranges the opening, middle and closing lines.

## Copying or printing

Edit the note freely in the box, then copy it into a card, a message or an email. To print it, pick a card size: the page is set to the card's exact size, so load a single card into your printer's manual or rear feed, or print on plain paper and trim. Printers handle small cards differently, so try one on plain paper first. What you type stays in your browser's local storage on this device.

## Questions

**How soon should I send a thank-you note?**

As soon as you comfortably can. A short note sent within a week or two is better than a perfect one sent months later, though a late note is still far better than none.

**Should I mention how much money someone gave?**

No. Thank them for their generosity and say what you plan to put it towards; the amount is best left out.

**Is it fine to thank someone for an event they attended?**

Yes, especially for weddings, showers and memorials. Choose Coming to an event and add a memory from the day.
